What exactly is Cannabidiol (CBD) and more importantly, what does it do?

CBD oil, or more formally, Cannabidiol, is found in the cannabis plant, one of many compounds in the Cannabinoid family. We all know that cannabis is notorious for its psychoactive effects on the brain. This effect is caused by a separate compound known as delta-9 tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the active ingredient in marijuana. Unlike THC, CBD does not have any psychoactive effects whatsoever, in fact, the hemp plants themselves have been bred to already contain very low levels of THC before processing.
